FAQ's - Frequently Asked Questions
What is a short haul move? This is a move that is less than 450 miles. Make sure to inquire with your moving company as you may have to pay long distance charges even for short haul moves.

What is an intrastate move? This refers to a move of more than 100 miles within the same state.
Does a moving company need to be licensed? Moving companies are actually registered. This means the federal government has issued them a certificate of authority that allows them to move household goods in any of the 50 states. Local moving companies may also be registered with the US Department of Transportation to move interstate shipments within certain geographical areas.
What is a non-binding estimate? This is an estimate based on the moving company’s previous experience with similar moving jobs to yours and it’s subject to change.

What are bulky articles? These refer to heavy items such as cars, snowmobiles, trailers or cars. Extra charges are usually applied because these items take up more space in the moving trucks/vans and require additional labour to load and unload.
Should I take an inventory of my items before moving? Yes, we recommend that you complete a detailed inventory of all the items within your home before the actual move. If possible, take digital photos or a video of the contents in each room. Make sure to store the photos or video safely during your move, because they can be very helpful if you need to file an insurance claim.
Why do movers place shipments from more than one household on a trailer during long distance moves? This is much more efficient and allows the moving company to lower their costs. Direct shipments are usually available, but they will cost you more.
What is valuation insurance? Valuation insurance covers you for any damage that occurs to your belongings while they are in transit or stored in another vehicle.
Will my furnishings remain clean during the move? Professional movers will make every attempt to ensure your items remain clean by covering them with plastic material or special furniture pads.
What is full-value coverage? If you purchase this type of coverage, your moving company will either replace a damaged or lost item with an article of similar kind and value, pay you for the replacement cost, repair the item or pay you the cost of any necessary repairs.
How can I make sure my items are moved to the correct room? Choose a consistent labeling system such as color coding your boxes or labeling them with consistent letters for their specific location. For example, boxes can be marked with blue to indicate the living room or DR can be written to indicate the dining room.
